It was a celebration to beat all celebrations – the Ambani pre-wedding.

Suddenly Jamnagar became the most watched space, squeaky shiny under the spotlight.

Not-yet-groom Anant Ambani was a sweet teddy bear while his bride-to-be Radhika Merchant was Alice in fairyland, both painting a picture of pretty perfection.

Everything about this big fat pre-wedding was in epic proportions. Not only India’s but the world’s who’s-who were there to grace the occasion and flaunt their presence. From Bollywood biggies to corporate czars, from political pundits to international icons. Singer Rihanna’s INR 74-crore compensation for her performance was much bandied about, while Mark Zuckerberg inspired memes with his attendance, as did the Khans triumvirate doing the jig in unison.

The festivities spread over 3-days were frenzied fodder for the media. Who was invited, who not, who wore what, what was the menu, the sparkling all around jewellery, the designer drapes, and the endless speculation about what cost how much.  Remember, whatever it cost, it was but a tiny drop of Mukesh Ambani’s entire net worth. Why grudge him that!

The bigger question is – if this was the pre-wedding, what grand spectacles can we expect to slobber over in the actual wedding. The extravaganza shall be a bonanza for the media.
