Kadalekai Parishe – Bigger, Better, Grander

Basavanagudi is all set to come alive with the famed groundnut festival of Karnataka coming soon to entice Bangaloreans.

With each passing year the Kadalekai Parishe has gotten bigger, better and wider in scope. What started as a simple rural celebration of the seasonal harvesting of groundnuts has now evolved into a cultural phenomenon with farmers converging here every year to showcase and sell the groundnut varieties to eagerly awaiting customers.

Usually the Kadalekai Parishe was held over two days, but this year it is planned as a five-day affair to meet the huge demand from the public, an indication of the massive popularity the festival enjoys amongst locals and visitors alike, with many foreigners also braving the crowds to catch the local customs.

The groundnut fair will be inaugurated on 17th November, 2025 on the Bull Temple Road by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. A special pooja will be performed to start off the festival, and a procession of 21 Basavannas (bulls) will be led up to the Bull Temple, (yes, it’s how Basavanagudi got its name).

Like last year, this year too has been declared as a “Plastic-free Kadalekai Parishe” and customers are advised to carry their own cloth bags when they come for their treasured purchases. The simple eco-friendly step will save usage of lakhs and lakhs of plastic bags.

Apart from groundnuts, the fair will have a wide variety of traditional food items available, as well as stalls selling bangles, traditional toys, clay objects, trinkets, and many other knick-knacks for the enjoyment of the public.

For five days starting 17th November, all roads will lead to Basavanagudi where the Kadalekai Parishe will be in full swing.
