March in Bengaluru

Like the lost and re-excavated cities of Mohen-jo-daro and Harappa of the long-ago Indus Valley Civilization that we studied about in history books, the lost flyover of Ejipura may yet be rescued and resurrected. A miracle indeed! It has got the dubious distinction of perhaps being the world’s longest-in-the-making flyover, and if it gets reconstructed now after nearly two decades of being the harbinger of unholy road jams and traffic snarls in the area, then it would be cause for serious celebration.

But until it actually happens, and gets completed, we can only cross our fingers and hope the powers and activist lobbies and contractors are able to overcome the confusion and their own inert states.

Meanwhile, signboards in Bengaluru are under the spotlight again – with the mandate of devoting at least 60% space and weightage to Kannada script and letters, ensuring that Bengalureans know they are in Bengaluru and not in some cosmopolitan utopia. Lest we forget.

Summer is upon us and water scarcity is looming on our heads like the sword of Damocles. The need of the hour is to tighten our belts, and become conscientious about this precious liquid. Fill a mug for brushing, washing rather than keeping a tap running. Switch to bucket bath in place of showers, and bathtubs are a complete no-no. Flush only as much as needed. Be judicious with water wastage while cooking and cleaning. Save water, like seriously, not just as as a slogan to read and forget.

Elections are around the corner, and political debates are getting hotter than the weather.

And yet, March is an easy sort of month, away from extremes of all sorts. A little cool, a little hot, but overall bearable. Tax-planning notwithstanding.
