February Frills

Frills, thrills and some chills – are the hallmarks of this month as we trundle headlong into the newly anointed year.

Frills of Valentine’s Day and all the accompanying redness that will envelope the young and young-at-heart with red roses, red heart-shaped chocolates, cards, emojis and what-have-you’s to express undying love even in these commitment-phobic times.

Thrills of the month after wrapping up all the festivities of January, while the new financial year is still some way off to not panic just yet, so time to breathe a bit and ponder on life’s whimsies.

And chills that occasionally pop up their heads in the evenings even when the rest of the day seems bright and sunny, a sudden darkening of the skies around dusk which still necessitates jackets, shawls and mufflers on the odd day. Not yet time to put away your woollens with the mothballs in deep storage.

Meanwhile Dhurandhar has broken all previous box office records, grossing over Rs 1000 crore in just 50 days, making it an all-time historic chartbuster in India and overseas. The Ranveer Singh starrer with Akshaye Khanna at his understated menacing best, is a relentless edge-of-the-seat Indo-Pak thriller, well-researched and based heavily upon actual events. Truth can be stranger, and crueller, than fiction indeed.

Darkness of human nature notwithstanding, February is a fine, free-spirited month that is perched in a pretty pleasant place. Make the most of its fine fettle.
