Not such “Saif” times…

The audacious attack on Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan inside his own home has been grabbing all the news-time since a fortnight, and far from being solved, the mystery seems to be getting more convoluted with every passing day, with all the classic elements of a botched-up hotch-potch of a case.

From mistaken identity (picking up the wrong man as the suspect who was on his way to see a prospective bride apparently – and which of course got called off by the girl’s family when the needle of suspicion pointed to the hapless fellow), to zeroing in on an illegal Bangladeshi migrant who thought he would wangle some big bucks from a rich household before escaping back to his home country – he even confessed to the crime in police custody but now the fingerprints picked up from the crime scene don’t match the suspect – and other such bewildering rigmarole that refuses to clear the air one way or the other.

By all accounts, too many loopholes in the case abound, and too many theories are being floated by armchair detectives overfed on CID and Crime Patrol sagas, including some doubting even the occurrence of the entire event and claiming it to be some elaborate publicity stunt, as well as irresponsible and unsubstantiated comments being shot off by rival political party honchos.

In short, a high-profile real-life whodunit involving a popular Bollywood royalty that should have been resolved by now given all the state machinery that swung into action, is still hanging fire while we await the final denouement with bated breath – as of a good potboiler that keeps us on the edge of our seat.
