Tragedy in the air
Just as we go to press, the media is suddenly awash with the horrific news of the Air India Ahmedabad-London bound flight crash.
All passengers and crew on board, except one, met their ill fate within 30 seconds of the airplane taking off. Unsuspecting students of a nearby medical college partaking of their midday meal in the hostel mess became collateral damage as the plane crashed into the building right there.
A tragic disaster of epic proportions. So many hopes and dreams – simply dashed into the ground with the massive blast, in one split second.
Whether we blame Air India for its negligence in technical maintenance, or we blame the government for not keeping strict vigilance over their safety measures, or we blame destiny – none of our grief and rage and outpourings can undo the loss of lives.
All the years of planning, the complex webs we weave about the future – all come to nought in the end, in one snap of a moment in time.
To quote the poignant words of a poet:
“My grieving soul awakens to the startling truth…
Now… this moment of Now is all a soul can lay claim to…
For who has lived to see another day?
All we have is Now… now… now.
This moment of Presence is all we can lay claim to…
And the love we leave behind
Is all the wealth we take with us… into the next world…”
We at Travel & Shop stand in grief and solidarity with the victims’ families who lost their loved ones in this heartwrenching tragedy.
