Monsoons in May
The month of May has brought some much needed relief to Bengalureans with sporadic showers. The sound of the accompanying thunder and lightning are music to the ears, to anticipate the rain that will follow. Even though the rain spells are brief and few and far between, it is still enough to cool us down physically and mentally.
After the intense heat we have had to endure since the last three months, Bengaluru can no longer boast of its once-upon-a-time USP of great weather all year around. The tag of being the air-conditioned city and garden city was lost long ago. Now the summers are as bad as Northern plains and the deep South, with every passing year the Celsius hitting a notch higher. Time was when people flocked to Bengaluru looking for cooler climes, fleeing from other cities to escape their own scorching summers.
Thankfully the monsoons have made an appearance and slowly but surely the weather shall be clement once again. Nothing like a few showers to get the locals to take out their umbrellas from the tops of cupboards and forgotten corners. Just the sight and sound of raindrops drumming on the window panes is enough to lift one’s spirit.
May is for monsoon and mangoes and the king of fruits is everywhere, adding sweetness to our lives with its juicy slurpy taste that tops everything else. Make the most of this luscious fruit in all its variety while the season lasts.
Say goodbye to the height of summer, and welcome the monsoons with gladness and glee.
