The month of March is ablaze, with the summer heat rising off the streets and searing down on us, invading our surroundings with relentless intent. The mercury is on a steady climb, a notch a day with the Celsius hitting the 30s already.

And yet being Bangalore (with its famed great weather), early mornings and late evenings offer a bit of a cool respite.

The extreme intra-day fluctuation in temperature is the irksome part. You leave home in the morning and the weather is still conducive, but by the time you reach your destination (in the famed Bangalore traffic), you have traversed to another temperature zone altogether.

It’s a constant juggle of wrapping up and shedding down of clothing to find the right balance.

Some visual relief comes from the flush pink tabebuia rosea trees dotting the roadsides erratically, if only you can manage to look up and around a bit. Much like the cherry blossoms of Japan, these vibrant blossoms, also known commonly as pink trumpet, rosy trumpet tree or pink poui, spread out in a flamboyant flourish, mesmerising you momentarily, before the next heat attack brings you back.

Mid-month some relief can be had with the festive colours of Holi, splashing cool joy to beat the heat (refer to our Events section to see where it’s all happening).

Make the most of March with its mercurial mayhem, mild and maddening in equal measure.
