Call of the EVM
The voting finger pings, and having pinged moves on!
(With apologies to Omar Khayyám’s original lines:
“The moving finger writes; and having writ,
Moves on: Nor all thy piety nor wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a line
Nor all thy tears wash out a word of it.”)
So having voted, and getting your finger inked, the deed is done. Not all the exhortations in the world can get the vote to change. It’s pinged and recorded and etched forever in the secret ballot of the EVM, to create history, or continue with status quo, or upset the apple cart – whichever way it goes, only time will tell.
Bangalore’s poor voter turnout was a direct result of the rise in Celsius no doubt. Stepping out of the house (and thereby the fan, cooler, AC) to stand sweltering in a serpentine line to exercise one’s franchise was a tough call this time. However, those of us who braved it should be glad, we did right.
The EVM itself stood there in its cordoned off stall, with more possibilities on the screen than one had considered, but now there was no time to do a rethink. Apart from the fact that one hadn’t done enough research on the 10 other possible candidates, the rumbling crowd behind was also a deterrent to think outside the box.
And thus the vote is cast, you have done your bit for the nation, one way or the other. In politics as in life, the only constant is change.
Pullout
The dip in voter turnout was inversely proportionate to the rise in Celsius
