Breaching the LOC
The Celsius in Delhi has breached the Line Of Control. At 53 degrees and rising, these sub-Saharan temperatures are so not suitable for the human condition, leading to all sorts of hallucinations and delusions of the mind and body.
The heat has had the effect of amplifying the election rhetoric several notches further, making the dance of democracy even more dizzying than normal with fevered high-pitched speeches, utterly outrageous utterances, and churlish chest-thumping claims being flung around loosely by the party hopefuls.
To escape the noise and the fury unleashed upon us by the weather-gods and the wannabe-gods, one can take recourse in the IPL being televised in our living rooms, less threatening and definitely less disastrous.
Sport can be the new opium of the people. With cricket leading the line in India. It occurs that perhaps sports are loved not for their sportiness per se, but as the perfect escape medium to divert oneself from life’s actual problems (over which one may or may not have control).
Whatever be the way, the important thing is to cool off literally and figuratively, and take a chill pill.
