All in a fortnight..

The last few weeks have been eventful in India as well as on the world stage.
We witnessed vicariously the most ostentatious and spectacular wedding in the history of the country with the Ambanis taking extravagance to never-before-or-after levels. A string of high-octane pre-wedding events culminating in the final wedding blitzkrieg that had the world’s who’s who traipsing in attendance and dancing with abandon at this ultimate gala of glitter and glam.
Meanwhile the world is in imminent danger of being subjected to another term with The Donald Trump leading USA, having survived the bullet that whizzed past his ear. The failed assassination attempt seems to have actually energized his narrative, boosting his POTUS chances. Will the half-Indian origin Kamala Harris be able to outfox him? Only November will tell.
Closer home, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget 2024 is a like a well-balanced thali meal with something for everyone. It’s a fine fiscal juggling act with a focus on the burgeoning middle classes, employment and skilling – the need of the hour, and an extra boost for infrastructure. The intent is right, the execution remains to be seen.
As a relief to the world’s serious problems, Paris Olympics 2024 kicked off with dazzling displays, Parisian performances and a grand glitz of global sportsmanship. India is a high contender across categories, with an impressive line-up in shooting stars, wrestling warriors and adept athletes. All eyes are on favourites Neeraj Chopra (javelin), Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting), PV Sindhu (badminton), and many others, to bring glory to the nation.
An eventful fortnight, indeed! And yes, let’s not forget to visit the Lalbagh Flower Show – our very own wonderful horticultural event to lift the spirits and exhilarate the senses.
