Wheel of Time: Exit Polls 2024
As we go to Press, the results are seeping in for the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections, with vote counting on in full swing across the country.
Being the world’s largest democratically held elections, voting which had been going on in a phased manner since April, it is a closely watched affair, and carries with it all the inherent drama that surrounds the dance of democracy, at times threatening to turn into Shiva’s tandav-nritya.
With exit polls pointing to a unanimous win for BJP-led NDA, a third term for PM NM looks imminent. Narendra Modi will then go down in history as only the second PM to be elected for three consecutive terms, after Jawaharlal Nehru.
The South is another matter altogether, with Tamil Nadu especially yielding no ground to any outsider parties. DMK rules here and is reigning supreme.
The southern politics are a law unto themselves, which no non-southerner can fully comprehend. Politics are a religion here, and the presiding deities can only be the local governments, where the rules of the rest of the country’s game don’t quite apply.
Wait and watch this space for more, as the wheel of time turns.
